MY PERFECT BODYGUARD 2 CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT INTO THE UNKNOWN
The following morning, after a restless yet surprisingly comfortable night's sleep, Linda made her way to the kitchen in search of some refreshing water. As she entered, she found Richard diligently drying the freshly washed dishes. Their eyes met, and an unspoken tension filled the air.
Surveying the kitchen, Linda noticed that the tumbler she needed was placed too high for her to reach. With a frustrated groan, she stretched as far as she could, attempting to grasp it. Unbeknownst to her, Richard had silently moved closer behind her. In a swift motion, he reached out and effortlessly retrieved the tumbler before handing it to her.
Later in the morning, Nina and Emma busied themselves preparing breakfast together in the kitchen. As they worked side by side, Emma paused and approached Nina with a suggestion.
"Hey, I was thinking, maybe we could go on a picnic together later. Just enjoy some time alone," Emma proposed, a hopeful expression on his face.
Nina smiled warmly at the idea but gently reminded him of their prior commitment. "I would love that, but Linda and I have plans to go shopping for clothes today."
Emma's disappointment was evident, but he quickly shifted gears. Nina wiped her hands on her apron and then wrapped her arms around Emma from behind, offering comfort.
"Don't feel bad, sweetheart. I already promised next time will be ours," Nina reassured him with a comforting hug.
As Emma left the kitchen, he made his way to the room where Richard sat, lost in contemplation while gazing at the ceiling.
"It's all your fault," Emma's voice cut through the silence, filled with frustration. "I can't spend quality time with my girlfriend anymore. Now she has to take your girlfriend out because she's the only one who can."
Richard remained silent, his thoughts consumed by the weight of Emma's words.
During breakfast, an uncomfortable silence hung over the table until Nina decided to break it.
"Hey, guys, just a heads up, Linda and I will be heading out to do some shopping for clothes," Nina announced, hoping to dispel the tension.
Emma's concern immediately surfaced as he voiced his worries. "Nina, it's not safe out there. For all we know, Gideon could still be out there looking for Linda. I can't allow you guys to leave. It's too risky."
Linda, who had been listening to the entire conversation, set her spoon down on the table with a sharp clang as she turned to face Richard.
"Hey, since when did I start taking orders from you about where I can or cannot go?" Linda's voice was edged with frustration. "Just because you saved me doesn't mean I have to follow your every command. Besides, you left without saying anything to me. I tried reaching out, but you didn't respond. So don't act like you actually care at all, because frankly, you suck at it."
Richard gazed at Linda with remorse, but he found himself at a loss for words. "I'm sorry," he finally managed to say. "You can go if you want to."
After Richard's apology, they finished their meals, and Linda and Nina prepared to leave. As they were about to head out, Emma approached them with something in his hand.
"Hey, this is a transmitter and a tracker," Emma explained as he handed it to them. "Just keep it on, and if you click this button, it sends out an alert. If anything goes wrong, both Richard and I will come running if you need us."
Nina looked at Emma with a mixture of surprise and appreciation. "Hey, I'm not trying to be bossy like Richard," Emma added quickly. "I just want to make sure that you're safe, because I don't know what I would do if something happened to you. Just think of it as your boyfriend looking out for you," he said earnestly.
Moved by his gesture, Nina leaned in and planted a warm kiss on his lips, and Emma instinctively wrapped his arm around her waist. After the affectionate moment, they bid farewell to Linda and Nina as they got into the car and drove off. Emma waved at them until they were out of sight.
As they drove to the mall, Nina gently opened up to Linda. "Hey, I think you should cut Richard some slack. He's just trying to look out for you."
"I know," Linda replied with a sigh. "I just want to be mad at him because if I don't, then maybe I won't have my respect back."
"Now that's my girl talking," Nina complimented with a supportive smile.
"To be honest, if Richard was around, I wouldn't have been in this much mess. I mean, no one would have messed with us. His leaving was my weakness," Linda admitted.
Nina nodded in understanding before changing the subject. "Speaking about Richard, how did you manage to snag a guy that handsome, strong, hot, and smart?" she questioned with a playful grin.
"For the record, I didn't actually sway him," Linda clarified. "He liked me first. And I'm also beautiful and hot, so I think it wasn't that hard. But you, fate played the most part in our story. When the whole world was fighting against me, he stood by me, fighting against them, got hurt many times because of me, almost died because of me. To be honest, I don't think I will ever meet someone like him again," Linda expressed sincerely.
"Aww, I didn't really know," Nina responded, her tone filled with empathy. "Richard didn't mention those parts to us. He just said you guys helped get the company back."
"Yeah, we did," Linda affirmed with a nostalgic smile. "It was the craziest and sweetest adventure I have ever been on."
"Wow, your gutsy stories are nuts," Nina remarked with a chuckle as they drove to the mall.
Once they arrived, Linda and Nina entered the mall and began browsing through the shops, buying as many clothes as they could carry. After stuffing the purchases into the car, Linda suggested they head home.
But Nina had a different idea. "Hey, hey, hey," she interjected. "We just got here. Can't we just go to this party and have some girls' time, party until evening?"
Linda hesitated for a moment before giving in to the allure of the idea. "Hmm, I really don't think it's a good idea, but it sounds like fun," she conceded with a smile.
Nina eagerly dragged Linda back into the mall, where they changed into their best attire before heading to the party. As they danced the night away, Nina switched off the transmission entirely.
"I'm pretty sure they are spying on us," Nina commented as they took a break from dancing, settling into chairs as they chatted and laughed together.
As they sat there, two handsome guys approached Linda and Nina, offering to buy them drinks. The two friends exchanged a glance, silently communicating their uncertainty about the situation. They leaned in close to each other to whisper.
"Is this a great idea?" Linda asked. "Should we leave them?"
"Not really," Nina replied. "Hey, this is just a party. Whatever happens here, stays here. Let's just spend time with them. You know we won't get this opportunity all the time. Once we get it, we should make the most of it."
"Well, I'm practically not dating. I'm just wondering about you," Linda admitted.
"Don't worry, I'll worry about myself," Nina assured her with a smile.
After their conversation, they turned to the guys and accepted their offer to buy drinks. As they danced together in the party, enjoying the music and the company, Linda and Nina began to feel dizzy. Their vision started to blur, and the glasses in their hands slipped and shattered on the floor.
Linda, realizing they had been drugged, desperately tried to reach for the transmitter, but before she could activate it, a foot came down and smashed it into the ground.
Before they knew it, Linda and Nina were unconscious, their fate unknown.
