MY PERFECT BODYGUARD 2 CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN RECKONING THE PAST
Following their triumphant victory and successful rescue, they sped away from the scene with Emmanuel at the wheel and Richard seated beside him, lost in his own contemplations. Linda and Nina occupied the backseat, enveloped in a heavy silence, with only the hum of the accelerating engine breaking the stillness.
Breaking the uncomfortable silence, Emmanuel spoke up, addressing Linda with concern. "Hey, Linda, how are you feeling? Are you injured? If you need anything, even a hospital visit, just let us know," he offered, glancing around at the occupants of the car.
Linda hesitated for a moment before responding, "I'm actually okay. Thank you for asking." She paused, then directed her attention to Emmanuel. "And your name is...?"
"Emmanuel," he replied with a friendly smile. "And beside me is my girlfriend, Nina."
"Nice to meet you, Emmanuel," Linda acknowledged "And of course, you know Richard," Emmanuel said with a faint smile.
"Thank you for saving me," Linda expressed her gratitude to Emmanuel.
"It was nothing, really," Emmanuel replied modestly.
As they arrived at their apartment, they faced the reality of their living arrangements. With two rooms available, one for Nina and Emmanuel, and the other for Richard, they needed to accommodate Linda.
"So, how are we going to handle this now that we have a new roommate?" Emmanuel inquired.
"I can give up my room for Linda, and I'll sleep in the living room," Richard suggested.
"You don't have to do that. I don't want you making sacrifices for me," Linda interjected, her tone firm as she directed her words at Richard. thanks
Sensing the tension within the room, Nina swiftly intervened to diffuse the situation. "Hey, guys, let's just take a breather and relax," she suggested, attempting to lighten the mood.
"I have an idea," Nina continued. "Why don't Linda move in with me and Emma, and Richard can stay in his own room?"
"What? Nina, are you serious? Are you already tired of living with me?" Emmanuel exclaimed, a hint of mock offense in his voice.
"Hey, I never said that!" Nina retorted with a playful grin. "But Linda needs accommodation, and besides, I think it's time for some girl time. So, what do you say?"
"Ouch," Emmanuel replied with a chuckle, realizing Nina's playful teasing.
"You're really going to leave me with this guy?" Emma pointed teasingly at Richard.
"Hey, I'm not that bad," Richard retorted with a smirk.
"Well, I'm not going to kiss you," Emma joked, eliciting a laugh from Nina.
"Nina, please, I can't imagine not having you beside me. There has to be a way out. How about letting Richard and Linda stay in the same room, and you and I share?" Emma suggested, his tone hopeful as he glanced around at the others in the room, breaking the silence that had settled over them.
"Linda, you don't have to inconvenience yourself," Emma protested, but Richard stepped forward, gently holding Linda's hands. "I'm not going to let anyone get to you again. Stay with us. It's safer, at least for now, until we figure out our next move," Richard insisted, his voice firm with determination.
Linda hesitated for a moment before reluctantly pulling her hands away from Richard's grasp. "Fine," she conceded with a sigh.
Nina, sensing the tension, stepped in and led Linda to the room, giving her a reassuring smile as they walked away.
As they entered the room, Nina spoke up, breaking the silence. "I know you don't have any clothes here, and going back to your place is risky with Gideon on the loose. You can wear one of mine for the night, and tomorrow we can go shopping. I can't wait for our girls' time," Nina said with a smile, earning a grateful smile from Linda in return.
After settling in, Nina prepared dinner, and everyone ate in silence. Once dinner was over, Linda slipped outside to gaze at the stars. Nina noticed her absence and decided to join her.
"Hey, can I join you?" Nina asked softly as she approached.
Linda nodded, smiling. "Of course you can."
"I already know what happened, and to be honest, if I were you, I would be mad as well," nina admitted, her tone filled with understanding. "Writing that number of letters and not receiving a single reply from that one person you care a lot about is really frustrating."
Linda looked at nina, feeling a pang of discomfort. "Hey
don't you worry about it? It's girls' time, and I definitely won't tell anyone, not even Emma," Nina reassured her, offering a supportive smile.
As Linda took a deep breath, she began to open up about the turmoil brewing within her. "To be honest, I really don't know what to say right now. I have a lot on my mind," she admitted, her voice tinged with vulnerability.
"When my dad died, life felt like a mess. I wanted to give up, to die too," Linda continued, her words heavy with emotion. "But you know who gave me the strength to keep going? It was Richard."
"Without him, I was just this weak, vulnerable girl," Linda confessed. "He was the one who gave me strength. He was there for me, he fought for me. He taught me everything I knew about sacrifice and self-discovery. He made me stronger."
"My dad raised me to be gentle, so I always relied on someone else to be my strength. I never learned how to be tough," Linda explained. "And after everything we've been through, I wanted Richard to be my husband. No matter our age, no matter the odds, he was different from all the people after my heart. Others wanted to be the CEO of Prime Tech, but Richard... he just wanted me to be as safe as anything."
"But I guess I was wrong," Linda said, tears filling her eyes. "And to be honest, I don't know what's true anymore. I'm so confused and sad. I wish I could be strong on my own. Why do I have to be this weak? What did I do to deserve all this pain?" she questioned, her voice trembling with emotion as she broke into tears.
Nina immediately wrapped her arms around Linda, offering comfort and reassurance. "Hey, I think it's not weak to admit that you're vulnerable. It's okay to feel weak because not all of us are meant to be strong all the time," Nina comforted her. "Even with everything I knew and had, I still want to confide in Emmanuel. So, it's not bad to seek solace in someone. Trust me."
"And I think Richard cares a lot about you. Maybe he had some reasons not to have reached out. You just have to ask him or talk things out," Nina suggested, holding onto Linda tightly, offering her support and understanding
As Linda and Nina were wrapped in a tight embrace, Richard stood behind the door of the adjacent room, eavesdropping on their conversation. With each word they exchanged, he felt a pang of pain and regret washing over him. How could he have let things deteriorate to this point?
After a while, Richard slowly made his way back to the room where Emma and Emmanuel were waiting. "Hey, did you check on the girls?" Emma inquired, noticing Richard's somber demeanor. "I mean, has Linda fallen asleep? I need to spend some time with Nina," Emmanuel added.
Richard didn't respond, his mind consumed by the weight of his actions. He simply sank into bed, closing his eyes as exhaustion washed over him, hoping to find solace in sleep despite the turmoil raging within him.
